Ed Sheeran addressed the claims of his cousin Jethro Sheeran, who had described him as 'selfish', 'malicious' and 'a bad person', for the first time publicly. Sheeran mentioned the family dispute during his concert in Atlanta on Saturday as part of the Loop Tour.
'You may have recently seen what my cousin is posting on social media,' Sheeran told the audience, without naming Jethro. He added that he had 'not spoken to his cousin for a very long time'. He did not address the specific allegations made by Jethro.
Jethro Sheeran also works in music and performs under the name Alonestar. He claims to have played a key role in Ed's career – that he guided him to the studio, performed with him and helped him as he began to build his music career. Their relationship deteriorated later due to business and musical disagreements.
In late 2024, Jethro claimed that they had reconciled and that their disputes were resolved, but his recent posts showed that the reconciliation had not lasted long. The conflict flared up again after the controversy surrounding Macklemore's departure from Sheeran's North American tour.
Jethro had previously attacked his cousin publicly, calling him selfish and a coward, and claiming that Ed had 'cheated' him over the years, mocked his mental health, and harmed him professionally and financially. These are Jethro's claims, which have not been verified by independent sources. Jethro also claimed that it was Ed who was responsible for Macklemore's removal from the tour.
Macklemore stated that the pressure was exerted by the stadium owners, while Sheeran claimed that he and his team had not made the decision, but rather the promoter and the stadium owners. Sheeran's brief comment in Atlanta was his first public response to the latest round of family feuds, with no response yet to the specific allegations.
