The Croatian national team arrived in Seville on Sunday evening, where they will play a Nations League match against Spain on Tuesday. The match is scheduled for 20:45 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium, home to the first-division side Seville, with an expected attendance of 43,200.
Among the players, the fans were most excited to see captain Luka Modrić. The newspaper Marca published a video on its website. Modrić stopped as he exited the bus to sign autographs and take photos with fans, some of whom were wearing Real Madrid jerseys with his surname on the back.
Among the crowd was a young boy wearing a Real Madrid jersey and a scarf around his neck with the name Modrić. The boy had travelled to Seville with his father from Córdoba, 140 kilometres away, to meet the 41-year-old footballer, and then took a photo with the Croatian player. "I am very happy," the boy said.
Modrić played for Real Madrid for 13 years, the club's jerseys dominating among the fans waiting for the Croatian national team.
Croatia defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 in Prague on Saturday evening in the first round of the League of Nations. Spain, meanwhile, beat England 3-2 in London.
