The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday that Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz have been forced to leave the national team due to injuries and will miss the Nations League matches. Both had to leave the Mannschaft squad earlier than planned.
Musiala suffered a torn muscle in his right thigh. The injury occurred on Thursday evening during the opening round of the Nations League, when Musiala interrupted his warm-up as he felt pain in his right thigh. He had been expected to start in the match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam, but was replaced by Nadiem Amiri at the last moment. The match ended 1-1. Scans revealed a torn muscle, the DFB explained. Musiala is leaving the team to undergo treatment in Munich. Neither the severity of the injury nor the expected duration of his absence has been specified.
Havertz left the pitch after a rough challenge by Quinten Timber in the 28th minute, for which Timber received a yellow card. Havertz was replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib several minutes later. Havertz is suffering from a muscle strain.
Jonathan Burkardt and Florian Wirtz will join the Mannschaft squad already from Friday. German coach Jürgen Klopp selected 44 players arranged on two lists for this week-long period of international duties. The first list is for the matches in Amsterdam on Thursday against the Netherlands and in Augsburg on Sunday against Greece. The second list applies from Monday, for the Nations League matches against Serbia in Munich on 1 October and against Greece in Thessaloniki on 4 October. Musiala and Havertz were on the first list, while Burkardt and Wirtz were on the second list.
