Martin O'Neill, the 74-year-old manager of Celtic, was discharged from hospital on Thursday following a minor medical procedure. Although he has left the medical facility, there is no set timeline for his return to the bench.
Celtic’s assistant coach, Shaun Maloney, visited O’Neill overnight before the news was made public. Maloney provided an optimistic assessment of the situation, describing the manager’s condition as genuinely positive. He noted that O’Neill was in good spirits and significantly better than he had been on Monday and Tuesday.
The decision on whether O’Neill will be present on the touchline for Sunday’s away trip to Kilmarnock will be made by the manager himself. Celtic travel to face Kilmarnock on Sunday, with the opposing manager, Neil McCann, expressing hope for the 74-year-old’s swift recovery.
O’Neill took charge of Celtic at the start of the season on a one-year contract. Previously, he had guided the club to a league and cup double following two stints as interim manager. He was also in charge when Celtic began the new season in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic played their match on Monday against Dundee, winning 1-0. O’Neill is currently absent from the sidelines as he recovers from his recent health issue.
