Glasgow Rangers have withdrawn their offer to sign Couhaib Driouech from PSV Eindhoven. The decision comes after the 24-year-old attended the match on Thursday, where he witnessed the game against Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok. Although Rangers had expressed interest in adding creativity from the flanks, the transfer did not materialise.
The match between Rangers and Jagiellonia ended in a 1-1 draw, which was enough for the Polish side to advance to the Europa League play-offs with an aggregate score of 3-2. Driouech, who primarily plays on the left, returns to his Dutch club following the visit to Scotland. PSV Eindhoven expressed surprise at Rangers' decision to withdraw the bid, given that the player had been present on the pitch.
Last season, Driouech played 40 matches for PSV, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists. Despite the solid statistics, he was often used as a substitute, coming off the bench in the Eredivisie on 24 occasions. In the Champions League, he started only one match in eight appearances, indicating that he was not a regular starter.
Rangers are now targeting other players who are immediately available, given that Driouech is carrying an injury. The Scottish club is preparing for important matches in the coming period. In the Conference League play-offs, they face Jablonec next Thursday.
Before that European challenge, Rangers will host St Mirren in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup. The club is continuing its search for solutions that can immediately contribute to the squad in key moments of the season.
