OpenAI has introduced new features for ChatGPT that allow users to virtually try on clothing items and save their favourite combinations. This is a global launch of two new features dedicated to shopping, with the main highlight being the ability to virtually try on clothing and accessories.

The virtual try-on feature allows ChatGPT users to upload their own selfie or a full-body photo to visually see how a specific item of clothing or accessory might fit. The option will appear as a new 'try on' button directly within the application interface. Users can also upload an image of the product itself, such as a screenshot from an online store, and ask the assistant to virtually try it on them.

The second option allows users to save products they discover in a personal library within the application, so they can return to them later. The new feature for saving favourite items helps users save products they like for later viewing, with saved items stored alongside the generated images from the virtual try-on.

ChatGPT can assist users in shopping by describing the style they wish to try in detail, then asking the assistant to find the exact items needed to complete such an outfit. Users can also upload photos of celebrities' outfits and ask the AI to find similar or identical items currently available for purchase online.

The new shopping features use the recently launched ChatGPT Images 2.5 model. This model produces more natural lighting and richer textures, follows editing instructions more reliably, and reduces the time required to generate images. The aim of this solution is to reduce the rate of product returns.

OpenAI had previously discontinued a feature for instant payment, which did not achieve good results.
