Branka Terzija Kićanović, a midwifery nurse at Koprivnica General Hospital Dr. Tomislav Bardek, will receive the Koprivnica City Medal. The award will be presented at a ceremonial session marking the City Day.
Branka Terzija Kićanović works in the Department of Neonatology and has been employed at the hospital since 1988. For more than four decades, she has worked alongside mothers and their babies. Her role involves caring for newborns, monitoring their needs and providing support to mothers during the first days of breastfeeding until discharge from the maternity ward.
Over the years, she has received commendations for her effort, empathy, support, patience, perseverance and success in working with the youngest patients and their mothers. She herself emphasises that more than 43 years of working with newborns and their mothers is part of her professional and life identity. She adds that she would choose her vocation again.
Branka Terzija Kićanović considers midwifery to be a calling rather than a job. She notes that it is a stressful profession because it requires great responsibility, constant attention and tolerance in various situations. According to her, for a good midwife, professional knowledge and practical skills are extremely important, alongside patience, empathy and the ability to establish trust.
