The 'Naša djeca' (Our Children) Association in Koprivnica has begun the celebration of Children's Week with a workshop titled 'Autumn mosaic', held at the Svitanja centre. This is a traditional annual event of the Croatian 'Naša djeca' Association, an action that has been carried out for more than seven decades.
During the workshop, children from Svitanja, together with DND volunteers (among whom were members of the children's volunteer team), created various decorative items from leaves and autumn fruits, which will brighten up their daily lives. A similar activity will take place at the Paediatrics Department of the local hospital and in schools and kindergartens.
Volunteers from the DND will, in the kindergartens Tratinčica, Igra and Medenjak, make traditional Podravina cakes and fruit salad, while explaining to the children what volunteering means. The programme for this year's Children's Week, designed by the DND Federation, is themed 'Volunteering in the community', and its aim is to encourage children and adults to actively participate in volunteer actions that can do good for others, the community and the environment.
A donation drive for the collection of preserved rolls will also take place as part of the celebrations, so that the 'Roll, don't scroll' project, run by the DND, can cover a larger number of children. Rolls and rolling equipment will be collected on 6 October from 10 am to 12 pm at the DND stand in the Town Park during a gathering of children, and on the same day from 7.15 pm to 8 pm at the Youth Centre.
28 volunteers from the DND will participate in all activities, among them ten children. The children proudly state the motto of the year for Children's Week: 'My heart is full of happiness, volunteering moves me!' The president of the DND is Jadran Lakuš.
During Children's Week, DND will hold 17 workshops and play sessions. Such a large-scale effort is possible thanks to the financial support of the City of Koprivnica and the Koprivnica-Križevci County, which rightly bear the title of Friends of Children.
