Osijek-Baranja County is introducing a special stipend for students studying to become nurses and healthcare technicians. This is a new form of support provided in addition to existing stipends, with the amount for this profile set at 300 euros per month.
A total of over 260,000 euros has been allocated in the county budget for stipends, according to County President Nataša Tramišak, with the stipend amounts increasing. The stipend for nurses and technicians is set at a level that ensures a qualified workforce, taking into account the planned construction of a new clinical hospital in Osijek.
In addition to the new stipend, stipends remain available for other students, including those studying to become doctors. A new feature in the system is that students can apply for the stipend from their first year of study. The county distributes stipends over ten months of study.
The additional change relates to secondary education, with an extra class added to the medical school. This, combined with the stipend support, further expands the capacity for training healthcare personnel.
The county continues to subsidise transport for students. In addition to the 75 per cent subsidy from the Croatian Government, the county provides an additional 7.5 per cent for transport, for which approximately 4.5 million euros have been allocated in the budget. With the contribution of cities and municipalities, students will have free monthly travel passes this school year.
