The City of Karlovac has faced a shortage of regular tow truck services during the peak summer season, sparking reactions from residents. The reason for this temporary halt to the communal activity is that all staff members of the Karlovac City Own Operations Service have utilised their entitlement to annual leave. This measure is scheduled for the period from 14 July to 7 August 2026.
According to confirmed information, staff from this service are taking their annual leave for the current year, including drivers and assistant drivers of special vehicles. Each employee is taking 25 days of leave, which has resulted in the city being left without teams responsible for removing illegally parked vehicles in the middle of the season.
The situation attracted public attention when a driver left his vehicle in the car park outside the Karlovčanka department store. The vehicle remained there for more than half an hour, but as there is no active tow truck service, it was not removed immediately. An indignant reader spotted the offence and contacted the office, sending a photograph as proof of the illegal parking.
The City of Karlovac has officially confirmed that staff are indeed on annual leave, explaining the inability to respond urgently to reported incidents. Although the citizen's report was recorded, the physical removal of the vehicle is currently not possible due to organisational reasons within the city's own operations.
