Mixed results emerged for British players at the Cincinnati Open. Cameron Nor advanced in the competition, while Jan Choinski and Jack Draper were eliminated in the first round. Norrie secured his place in the second round, where he faces Alexander Zverev.
Jan Choinski, currently world number 77, was unable to overcome Argentine Thiago Agustín Tirán. The match was tense and lasted almost three hours, with all three sets decided by tie-breaks. Tirán won 7-6 (11-9), 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-4) after a dramatic battle on the court.
Jack Draper, the former world number 4, played for the first time since returning from an injury last week. Although he led 5-2 in the second set against Spanish player Martín Landaluce, he lost his advantage. Landaluce won 6-3, 7-5. Draper made 47 unforced errors and 12 double faults in the match.
Cameron Norrie, the British number two and world number 37, faced Croatian qualifier Dino Zrnić. Norrie lost the first set but managed to turn the match around. He won 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. Just two weeks ago, Norrie reached the semi-finals in Los Cabos. In the next round of the Cincinnati Open, he will face Wimbledon finalist Alexander Zverev.
