Novak Djokovic plays Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. Djokovic has not lost a match at this tournament yet, entering the clash with a 31-0 record.
Zverev is a two-time Grand Slam champion and one of the toughest possible opponents for Djokovic in the tournament's latter stages. Djokovic has won the Beijing title six times and has never lost a match in the main draw. Djokovic's winning streak prior to the match against Zverev stood at 31 victories without defeat.
Djokovic lost his serve in the first game. After missing a parallel forehand, he turned to Viktor Troicki. Troicki had previously stated that, at that moment, he had no concrete solution to offer. Djokovic sarcastically replied with a smile: 'You have no solution, well done'.
After the conclusion of a point, Zverev requested a review, claiming he was distracted during the rally. It is believed the distraction was a change in content on an advertising board. The umpire accepted Zverev's complaint and decided to replay the point.
Djokovic was unhappy with the decision to replay the point. He believed that a player must stop the rally immediately upon noticing a distraction, rather than continuing to play and only requesting a replay after a missed shot. In his dispute with the umpire, he remarked that under such interpretation, '30 shots' could be played before a player decided to lodge a complaint.
