Cole Palmer has signed a new contract with Chelsea on improved terms, binding him to the club until 2034. The 24-year-old England international has thus extended his stay with the club, although he was already under contract until 2033.
The new deal places Palmer among the players with the longest contracts in the Premier League. Alongside him, only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Chelsea teammates Joao Pedro and Geovany Quenda are tied by contracts until 2034. Palmer had signed his previous contract just two years ago.
Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023 in a transfer worth £42.5 million. Joao Pedro also signed a new contract until 2034 in August, while Pedro Neto signed a new six-year deal last month.
In the current season, Palmer has scored four goals and provided two assists in seven matches. This season, he has played more minutes than any other Chelsea player. Last season was marked by a stubborn groin injury, and due to a lack of availability, he was omitted from the England squad for the World Cup this summer. He also missed the recent international break.
Thomas Tuchel stated that Palmer "is missing too many opportunities". Alonso confirmed that Palmer is expected to be available for Saturday’s match against Bournemouth. "He is dedicated, but he must be fully fit to play," Alonso said. "He trained during the past week and felt better, but we did not want to rush him."
Alonso’s side sits in 10th place in the table after five matches, having conceded 12 goals.
