Borussia Dortmund defeated Sabah 2-1 in their Champions League match in Baku. It was the first win for Borussia in their last four matches across all competitions and their second in the Champions League this season. Croatian coach Niko Kovač manages Dortmund, who arrived in Baku with a run of three matches without a win. In the league, Dortmund recorded two draws (Werder 2-2, Union Berlin 0-0), and in the Champions League, a defeat to Bodø/Glimt (0-1).
Sabah is led by former Gorica and Hajduk coach Valdas Dambrauskas. Sabah have won all five of their European home matches this season, including four victories in the qualifying rounds and one against Slavia in the previous round. In those matches, Sabah scored 14 goals and conceded two.
Kovač started with strikers Serhou Guirassy and Fábio Silva, who had only started a match together once before, against Paderborn. In the fifth minute, Guirassy set up Silva, who went one-on-one with Stas Pokatilov, but Pokatilov saved the shot. Silva threatened again in the seventh minute, and Pokatilov saved once more. In the eighth and ninth minutes, Guirassy shot over the bar on both occasions. In the 10th minute, Felix Nmecha shot, Pokatilov saved, and Guirassy cleared the rebound. In the 39th minute, Tymoteusz Puchacz crossed, and Aden McCarthy headed in for 1-1. In the 53rd minute, Guirassy scored from a Joey Veerman cross to make it 2-1. In the 76th minute, Ivan Lepinjica set up Orpheus Mbinu, but Mbinu shot poorly. After three rounds, Dortmund have six points, while Sabah remain on three points.
Fenerbahçe and Slavia Prague played out a 2-2 draw. The visitors secured their first point in the final moments of the match. Fenerbahçe had hoped for their first Champions League win in 18 years. Fenerbahçe last won in April 2008 against Chelsea (2-1), before suffering six defeats and three draws. Fenerbahçe took the lead in the fourth minute with a goal from the edge of the box by Oğuz Aydın. Aydın became the player to score the earliest goal in Fenerbahçe's history in the UEFA Champions League. Seven minutes later, it was 2-0; Nelson Semedo assisted, and Mason Greenwood scored. The visitors reduced the deficit in the 15th minute after a mistake by Matteo Guendouzi, who gave the ball away to Lukáš Provod, who found himself one-on-one with Ederson to narrow the gap to 2-1. In the final moments of the match, the visitors equalised; Pavel Kačor scored for 2-2 from a Samuel Oduro cross. For the Turkish side, it was their second point, and for the visitors, their first point.
