Manchester United is selling pieces of turf from its Old Trafford stadium. The 7-by-7 centimetre sections of turf are preserved after the pitch was dug up and stripped to the foundation for the first time in 14 years.
The preserved sections are placed in glass blocks. On the club's website, the blocks are described as 'an invaluable memory of iconic matches played at home' and 'preserving the memory of match days'. The first batch, which has been put on sale, has already sold out.
Old Trafford, also known as 'The Theatre of Dreams', has been United's home since 1910. The club finished third in the Premier League last season, but is currently 12th in the table with only one win from the first five league matches.
The initiative to sell the turf was announced on the same day the club reported that its debt remains above €1 billion. The club also reported a seventh consecutive annual loss.
United recorded a turnover of £677.6 million for 2025-26, but had a pre-tax loss of £43 million. The club confirmed that £63.5 million was spent on land for the new stadium, the total cost of which is expected to exceed £2 billion.
