Orahovica handballers were defeated at home by Valpovka 35:40 in the first round of the Croatian Handball Cup, East Region. The match was played last night in front of a well-filled hall in Orahovica.
The Orahovica players started the match poorly and, with too many technical errors, quickly fell six goals behind. The visitors maintained the six-goal lead until the end of the first half, which finished 14:20.
In the second half, Tomislav Rotim’s team played somewhat better and won that period by one goal, but it was not enough to threaten Valpovka’s victory.
Orahovica coach Tomislav Rotim stated that it was one of those days when nothing goes right, but on the other hand, they faced an excellent opponent who skillfully exploited every mistake. He also said that they rotated a lot during the match and gave opportunities to players who play less in the league, emphasising that their priority is still the league. He added that they face Županja at home on Sunday and that they will give their all for a win.
The most effective player for the hosts in this match was returning player Borna Fruk with eight goals. Domagoj Kiš and Karlo Božić added seven goals each. The match’s most effective player was Moro Lordan from Valpovka with 12 goals scored.
