Real Madrid has demanded the 'immediate resignation' of La Liga president Javier Tebas following his comparison of the club's communications to the propaganda methods of Joseph Goebbels. The club described the comments in its statement as 'deeply offensive' and 'morally repugnant'.

Tebas posted an extensive statement on the X platform on Friday, asserting that 'Real Madrid's management leads an orchestra of spokespeople, with Real TV leading the singing'. He added that 'their score is always the same: choosing moves that suit them, repeating complaints, and feeding suspicion'.

According to Tebas, this approach resembles 'the propaganda mechanisms used by Goebbels, the minister of propaganda in Nazi Germany: systematic repetition, the construction of enemies, and the subordination of facts to the narrative'. Tebas later clarified that he had withdrawn the comparison 'from propaganda techniques', not 'ideology'.

Real Madrid rejected this clarification, stating that it did not mitigate the 'institutional indecency of his statements'. The club demanded that Tebas step down from his position as head of the top-tier competition and from his role as deputy president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

The club's statement noted that it was 'absolutely intolerable and highly serious' that someone in two of the most responsible positions in Spanish football would use comparisons to the propaganda methods of the Nazi regime to discredit the club, its management, and its media. Real added that these statements 'represent another episode in the repeated attacks by Javier Tebas on Real Madrid, its president, and its media'.

The tensions between Tebas and the club are not new. Last month, Tebas criticised Real Madrid for claims that there was a conspiracy against the club. Tebas had previously been critical of Real and its president Florentino Pérez after they disagreed with his plans for the European Super League in 2021. In 2025, Tebas stated that Real had 'lost its mind' after the club sent a formal letter of complaint to the Spanish Football Federation regarding the refereeing in the league.
