Real Madrid will once again have representatives at the Ballon d'Or ceremony after a two-year absence. French publication L'Équipe reports that the Madrid club has decided to end its boycott and send a delegation to the event, which will be held in London on Monday.
Real missed the last two ceremonies due to dissatisfaction with the 2024 winner selection. Rodri won the Ballon d'Or that year, while Vinícius Júnior, whom the Madrid club considered the main candidate for the award, was left without the honour. Following this outcome, Real cancelled its attendance at the ceremony and repeated the decision the following year.
According to the French newspaper, numerous Real representatives are expected to appear in London, including nominated footballers. The decision came after the win in El Clásico. Among the nominees are Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior.
Mbappé is particularly highlighted, with his nomination raising the question of whether the Madrid club expects its striker to win the award. The attendance of the delegation does not reveal anything about the final outcome of the voting.
Whether the Ballon d'Or will end up in the hands of one of Real's footballers will be known after the winner is announced at the ceremony in London.
