Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage said he feels "shame" after his team lost 5-0 to Brighton, admitting he does not know if he will be given time to save his job.

Palace conceded three goals in the first 10 minutes, with the defeat being their heaviest against that opponent since January 1956. "It is hard to summarise because there are many negative things," Sage said. "We started very badly. It is completely abnormal to concede three goals in a game like this after nine minutes."

Sage took responsibility on himself. "It is my fault because I am the manager, I provide the motivation. I prepare the situations. We played so badly that it is my fault," he stated. "I prepare the team, so I am responsible for what happened on the pitch. I have a lot of work to do because I must change these things." Asked if he would be given time to turn around the poor form, he replied: "I don't know."

Asked about his emotions after the match, he said: "Only one feeling - shame. When you play a game like this, you have to show a different face. This was our worst face." He also apologised to the fans: "I just want to apologise to the fans. We were not at the level we expect and I am very sorry for that because I know how important it is to them, but today we did not show that it is so important to us."

Sage took over Palace only this summer, after leading Lens to the French Cup and second place in Ligue 1 last season. His predecessor Oliver Glasner won the FA Cup in 2025 and the Conference League in May.

Palace are currently 14th in the Premier League with two wins in seven matches, and 17 goals conceded is the highest in the league. In the Europa League, the team have one win and one loss in two matches. On Thursday they travel to Turkey to visit Besiktas, and on Sunday they return to the Premier League at home against Newcastle.
