Igor Tudor, the 48-year-old Croatian coach, is mentioned among the candidates to take over Napoli, according to Goal. Tudor is currently unemployed following his departure from Tottenham, while Thiago Motta and Vincenzo Montella, who was sacked as Turkey’s manager, are also cited as possible successors to Allegri.
Napoli’s season has entered a serious crisis following a string of poor results. The team has suffered five defeats in the first nine matches of the season, a run that the club has not experienced in two decades. Such a result has seriously shaken confidence in manager Massimiliano Allegri, who is under immense pressure.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, president Aurelio De Laurentiis was surprised by certain moves by the technical staff. In particular, decisions regarding team rotation and the selection of the attacking duo of Giovanni Simeone and Lucca were questioned, causing dissatisfaction within the club to grow further.
The next two matches could determine Allegri’s future. Napoli hosts Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday, followed by a league derby against Roma on Saturday. These two demanding encounters could be decisive for Allegri’s stay in the dugout, and if results do not improve, Napoli may look to change managers.
Allegri attempted to calm the situation after the latest defeat. He stated that he does not believe his team’s performance is as poor as the results, highlighting that the side created numerous chances against Villarreal and played in an organised manner against Venezia, losing due to a single moment of carelessness, specifically an own goal. He added that he has been through such moments in his career before and that the disappointment must be turned into sporting rage to start winning again.
Tudor knows Italian football well. He spent nine years as a player for Juventus, and during his managerial career, he has led Udinese, Verona, Lazio and Juventus. Juventus previously sacked him after seven months, while his short stint at Tottenham ended in March this year, with the London club dismissing him after just a month and a half.
