The trial of Rachida Datin is taking place in Paris.
The former minister is currently standing trial in Paris. She is accused of corrupt acts linked to the actions of the Renault-Nissan group. Her defence, which she presented, claims that she acted solely as a lawyer for the Renault-Nissan group, which contradicts the claims of French prosecutors that she received €900,000 in fees in the form of lobbying payments.
This accusation follows an investigation launched by the French prosecutor in 2019. The investigation was conducted after it was found in 2019, during a search of Renault's headquarters, following the arrest of Carlos Ghosn, the former head of Renault-Nissan. Ghosn, who is 72 years old, was arrested in Japan in 2018 on charges of financial abuse.
French prosecutors allege that the service agreement, signed in 2009, was used to conceal lobbying. This agreement, which was signed between Renault and the company, was key in uncovering the corrupt acts. Investigators found a contract that was used to conceal lobbying, which further confirmed the suspicions of corruption in the case.
This trial is part of a wider scandal that has involved several high-ranking officials, including the former head of Renault, Carlos Ghosn. Ghosn, who was accused of financial abuse, was arrested in Japan in 2018. His charges, along with those against others, include corrupt acts and abuse of power.
These events have drawn significant public attention, as they have highlighted deep-seated corruption in the French business world. Investigators have found numerous pieces of evidence that have confirmed the suspicions of corruption, which has further reinforced the need for stricter controls and oversight in business.
