Five people face accusations of falsifying data related to the collection of waste packaging, resulting in significant financial losses for the public sector. According to a statement from the County State Attorney's Office in Bjelovar (Županijsko državno odvjetništvo u Bjelovaru), approximately €1 million was improperly paid out from the Environment and Energy Efficiency Fund (Fond za zaštitu okoliša i energetsku učinkovitost), while the total damage is estimated at 1.2 million euros.
The indictment was officially filed with the County Court in Bjelovar, with the most serious charges relating to a man born in 1980. He is the responsible person for a company based in the Virovitica area and is accused of abusing his position in companies and sole traderships from the beginning of 2019 to mid-2024. The alleged offences took place in the areas of Virovitica, Požega, and Gradina.
The lead defendant is accused of computer forgery, as he entered false data into systems to create the appearance of fake waste collection activity. Alongside him, on the defendant's bench, are a woman born in 1975 and a man born in 1970.
These two are accused of forging business documents. The indictment states that they entered inaccurate information into documentation, certified it with their own signatures, and used it as authentic to justify the payout of funds from the Fund. All the accused now face criminal liability before the competent court.
