The body of an elderly man who went missing on the island of Zlarin was found by members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (Hrvatska gorska služba spašavanja) on Tuesday afternoon, the HGSS reported.
The report of the disappearance was received via the 112 Centre on Monday after 16:00. The duty rescuer from the HGSS Šibenik Station received the call from the 112 Centre shortly after 16:00 on Monday, 21 September, after which the Šibenik rescuers were immediately transferred to the island by the maritime police boat and the operation was launched.
During the search, possible locations and paths the person could have taken were scoured. In addition to foot search teams, a K9 unit with a dog and an unmanned aerial vehicle were involved. Members of the Zlarin Volunteer Fire Brigade and numerous locals also participated in the search.
The operation on the first day lasted late into the night, but without results. The search resumed on Tuesday, 22 September, when the search area was further expanded. In the afternoon hours, rescuers found the body of the missing man.
From the HGSS Šibenik Station, they stated: "We hereby express our deep sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased."
Dozens of people participated in the search, and specialised units and air support were also deployed. The circumstances of the man's death are not yet known.
