A personal car carrying five Danish nationals skidded off the road on Friday afternoon in the vicinity of Plitvice Lakes, remaining suspended above the abyss. Two children were transported by helicopter to the University Hospital Centre (KBC) in Rijeka, where it was confirmed they were not seriously injured, according to Novi list citing HRT.
The complex rescue operation involved firefighters, the police, emergency medical teams, and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, which managed to extract the vehicle.
Ten rescuers from the Gospić station of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) were deployed. The station’s chief, Dario Cindrić, stated that the majority of the work had been completed by the time they arrived, with firefighters from Korenica and medical teams from Gospić and Plitvice having already handled the situation. The rescuers assisted in securing the vehicle and facilitating its transport.
The University Hospital Centre in Rijeka also issued a statement regarding the condition of the patient admitted. Dr Beden, an attending physician at the Department of Paediatric Surgery, stated that one person involved in the accident had been admitted for treatment, and that all necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures had been carried out.
