A twenty-year-old man was seriously injured in an explosion that occurred in a family home in the Vodena Draga settlement near Bosiljevo. The young man is in critical condition and, due to the severity of his injuries, was airlifted by the Emergency Medical Service to Zagreb for treatment.
Also injured in the same incident were the 62-year-old father and the 22-year-old brother of the injured young man. Both were treated at the Karlovac General Hospital, where they are out of danger. Surgeon Dalibor Lavrnja confirmed that the patients are in good general condition, but they will remain in hospital for several days to fully stabilise their condition.
According to information known so far, the explosion occurred in the living room of the family home at the moment when the twenty-year-old was handling an explosive device. Police do not rule out the possibility that it was an improvised explosive or a device of military origin. A thorough investigation is underway at the scene.
Members of the bomb disposal team are collecting evidence and taking samples from the site. The investigation is establishing the exact causes and circumstances of the accident, while investigators are attempting to reconstruct the precise sequence of events that led to the serious consequences.
Residents of Vodena Draga, many of whom are owners of holiday homes in Zagreb, testified to the exceptional force of the detonation. One neighbour said the shockwave was so strong that it shattered dishes in her house, while others confirmed that the walls shook.
The injured father and brother sustained mainly superficial injuries from shrapnel. Although their injuries are less severe compared to those of the twenty-year-old, medical staff continue to monitor their condition during their stay in the Karlovac hospital.
