In the village of Selce, situated on the banks of the Koraćica River, the summer holiday is currently underway for 18 children from foster families. This humanitarian initiative brings together young participants under professional supervision, with the local community playing a key role in the organisation and financing of the event.
Accompanying the children are four leaders who, during the stay, ensure safety, programme organisation, and daily care for the young guests. Their presence is key to the smooth running of activities and the creation of a pleasant atmosphere in the natural setting.
The participants are accommodated in the Hostel Karlovac, which is currently hosting all the participants in the project. The accommodation capacity is tailored to the needs of the children, with the facility serving as a base for all planned activities during the summer holiday.
The city of Karlovac has taken on the role of host for this initiative for the fifth year running, demonstrating a continuous commitment to socially vulnerable groups. This long-standing practice has proven to be a sustainable model of support, enabling children from foster families to enjoy a quality holiday without financial barriers.
The city of Karlovac is covering all costs associated with this humanitarian initiative. This includes transport costs to the destination in Selce, as well as accommodation costs for the duration of the stay. The city has allocated funds for this purpose from its social programme. A total of €9,000 has been allocated to cover the needs of the summer holiday, from logistics to accommodation, confirming the city’s serious commitment to social care.
