The Ministry of Labour, Pensions, Family and Social Policy is set to publish the first tenders for the recruitment of personal assistants in state institutions next week, Poslovni dnevnik reports. The aim is to recruit an additional 2,000 workers who are currently missing, enabling people with disabilities to fully exercise their right to personal assistance.
"We are aware that there is a shortage of personal assistants at the moment, and this decision on recruitment addresses the specific need to secure that missing number as a necessary measure," said the Minister of Labour, Alen Ružić.
Assistants will be able to work in more than 50 state social care institutions or associations, with the option for employers to choose. Personal assistance is available 24 hours a day, including weekends and public holidays, with provisions for multiple assistants per person where full-day care is required.
A coefficient of 1.37 is applied to the calculation of pay, and the Ministry has announced that the basic salary will increase in the autumn. Rights stipulated in collective agreements remain fully secured, the ministry states.
