Minister of Labour Alen Ružić stated on Thursday that it is possible to consider an increase in coefficients for cleaners. This confirms that measures to improve working conditions in this occupational group are being actively considered at the state level.
In addition to adjusting the coefficients, the minister highlighted that direct salary increases for cleaners are also being considered. These statements come in response to growing concerns in the cleaning sector, particularly within healthcare institutions.
The Zagreb University Hospital Centre trade union had previously warned of a critical shortage of cleaners. The situation has been further complicated by the fact that the role is becoming less attractive to potential workers, making recruitment and staff retention more difficult.
This issue is not isolated to a single healthcare centre; it represents a broader challenge for maintaining hygiene standards in the public sector. Professional and financial interventions are required to ensure an adequate workforce.
