The Možemo! and SDP parties are holding simultaneous press conferences in eight Croatian cities, scheduled for 13 August 2026 at 12:00. This media action aims to draw attention to the issue of illegal dumpsites and black spots across the country. The event takes place just ahead of the Croatian Parliament’s Environment Committee meeting.
The committee’s meeting is scheduled for Friday, 14 August, in Gospić. An incident involving the mass illegal disposal of waste has been discovered there. The parties state that the situation with black spots in other parts of Croatia mirrors that in Lika, highlighting the need for urgent state intervention.
One of the locations for the conference is Poznanac, near the Inkop factory. Speakers at the event include Sandra Benčić, coordinator for Možemo!, and Siniša Hajdš Dončić, leader of the SDP. They note that the discovery in Gospić has revealed previously unknown waste sites across the country.
Suspicion of illegal waste handling extends from Benkovac to Pazin. In Benkovac, according to the organisers, the issue is being ignored. Pazin has been waiting for six years for the remediation of a local black spot, while the situation in Pazin is worsening. In Otočac, the area is threatened by the influx of waste from Gospić.
The problem is also present in other parts of Lika, where suspicious dumps have been discovered in Lički Osik and Udbina. In Zadar, a large amount of waste has been dumped at the Diklo site in recent years, raising serious concerns among the public and experts. While the State Attorney’s Office investigates the cases in Senj, local communities are left to deal with the consequences of environmental abuse.
