The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, David Plenković, held working meetings in Virovitica and Vukovar. During the visit to these towns, the Minister met with representatives of the Virovitica-Podravina and Vukovar-Syrmia counties, as well as with local self-government officials. The aim of the meeting was to align strategies for addressing current challenges in the agricultural sector.
The key topic of discussion was the current epidemiological situation, with special emphasis on further activities aimed at preventing, controlling and ultimately eradicating African swine fever in the Republic of Croatia. The Minister reviewed the current situation on the ground with those present, assessing the effectiveness of measures already taken and identifying areas that require additional attention.
The next step in coordinated action was discussed, in which all competent authorities would be involved, in order to ensure the fastest and most effective response to any new cases of the disease. Special emphasis was placed on the need to adapt preventive measures to the specificities of individual counties, taking into account local conditions and differences in the spread of the disease.
Minister Plenković highlighted the key role of local crisis staff in managing the crisis. He stressed the need to strengthen them so that they can adequately coordinate the work of all stakeholders on the ground. The consistent implementation of biosecurity measures was highlighted as a fundamental prerequisite for stopping the spread of the virus and protecting domestic livestock.
