This Sunday, the autumn event "Gupčeva kestenijada – mošt rezanec i kostanj pucanec" is being held for the 17th time in Gornja Stubica. The central location for all activities is at Gupčeva linden tree, where visitors can indulge in the scents and tastes of chestnuts, traditional cakes and a must tasting.
Marina Breber, director of the Tourist Board of the Donja Stubica and Gornja Stubica area, highlighted that this year they are recording an increase in the number of visitors compared to the previous year. The event gathers a large number of domestic small family farms (OPGs), and according to her, there are 30 exhibitors available who offer truly everything. The Vintners and Viticulturers Association "Peharček" has prepared a tasting of must, cakes and gibanice (layered pastries).
Visitor interest is high. Many people have announced their arrival, and many have come by bus. During the day, visitors can enjoy performances by two KUDs (Cultural and Artistic Societies) from the Kutina area, while KUD Matija Gubec from Gornja Stubica also performs. Smooth Band will provide entertainment throughout the day.
Organisers recall the modest beginnings of the event. Initially, the chestnut festival was of a modest character, with the focus exclusively on Krapina-Zagorje County. Today, as they point out, visitors come from all over Croatia, and the number of exhibitors is growing year on year – some had to be turned away this time due to a lack of space.
Matija Lešković, mayor of Gornja Stubica, is also present at the event. In addition to chestnuts, visitors can see on the spot what chestnuts look like and try them, while the offer also includes venison, venison goulash and various gibanice.
