Real Madrid paid 10 million euros, or 8.4 million pounds, for the services of the 27-year-old defender. The Spanish giants saw in Alexander-Arnold one of the most versatile defenders in the world, expecting his passing range, crossing ability, and experience in managing high pressure to influence the course of matches.
However, his first season at Real Madrid was interrupted by a series of challenges. Alexander-Arnold faced injuries, managerial changes, and difficulties adapting to the new league and environment. Despite these obstacles, he appeared in 35 of Real Madrid's total 62 matches across all competitions last season, recording 21 appearances in La Liga.
The England international's career also experienced other milestones. Alexander-Arnold failed to make the England squad for the World Cup, further marking the period in which he sought a new club environment. Real Madrid's management decided to terminate the player's contract on 1 June 2025, a month earlier than agreed, formalising the end of his first spell in Madrid.
