Arsenal have officially signed Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in a deal worth £75 million. The 28-year-old, who previously wore the captain’s armband at St James’ Park, completed his move to the Emirates Stadium following intensive negotiations between the clubs.
Guimaraes has signed a four-year contract, with an option to extend for a further 12 months. The Brazilian had expressed his desire to join the Premier League champions earlier this summer, and the process is now complete. Newcastle United wished Guimaraes and his family all the best in the next phase of his career in a statement.
The Brazilian midfielder described his departure from Newcastle as one of the hardest decisions of his life, highlighting how much the club meant to him. However, he felt he had reached a point in his life where he needed a new challenge, both for himself and his family, and wanted to experience something new.
Guimaraes left the La Manga training camp in Spain earlier this week before signing for Arsenal. During the transfer process, he received messages of support from several future teammates, including Gabriel and Declan Rice.
Declan Rice, also a midfielder at Arsenal, sent a message to Guimaraes inviting him to the club, stating: “Please, no more fighting, we are friends now.” This message suggests a desire to create a unique and collaborative environment in the middle of the pitch.
