Everton and Crystal Palace have reached an agreement on a player exchange, resolving a situation that has persisted for several months. According to the agreement, Everton's Dwight McNeil moves to Crystal Palace, while Palace's Brennan Johnson moves to Everton. The transaction marks the end of protracted negotiations between the two clubs.
Both players are expected to undergo medical examinations on Monday. If the medical checks are successful, McNeil and Johnson will sign four-year contracts with their new clubs. McNeil is 26 years old, while Johnson is a Wales international who will continue his career in the English league.
This deal follows previous unsuccessful attempts at a permanent transfer. In February, Palace had already agreed to a loan deal with an option to buy for McNeil. That transfer was set to become permanent this summer, with the transfer fee estimated at £20 million. However, the transaction was not completed as it was not possible to finalise the necessary administrative documentation in time.
Despite the collapse of the previous agreement, McNeil had already undergone a medical examination for Crystal Palace at that time. The current player exchange represents a more efficient solution for both parties, allowing the players to complete their transfers on time and the clubs to finalise squad changes ahead of the new season.
