Hajduk have confirmed that their winger Roko Brajković suffered a serious knee injury during Sunday’s training. Further medical examinations confirmed a cruciate ligament injury, which is one of the most severe injuries an athlete can sustain. According to the medical reports, the player will be out of action for the remainder of the season.
The news was confirmed by Brajković himself, bringing an end to speculation about the extent of the damage to his health. This is a significant blow to the side managed by Gonzalo García, given that Brajković had recently secured a firm place in the starting lineup. The player had built up a streak of good performances, performing excellently in every role assigned to him by the coaching staff.
The case of Roko Brajković has drawn comparisons with an incident from last season, when defender Marino Skelin suffered a similar cruciate ligament injury. That injury occurred early in the previous season, immediately before a European match, during training. The situation at the time led to changes in the squad, but Hajduk managed to find a suitable replacement.
At the time of Skelin’s injury, Branimir Mlačić came onto the pitch. Mlačić proved to be an excellent replacement, and over time became an indispensable figure in Hajduk’s first team. His performances were so impressive that they attracted the attention of foreign clubs, which ultimately resulted in his transfer to Italian side Udinese.
Hajduk now face a similar challenge, but with the difference that Brajković is a key figure in the attacking line. The loss of a player who has demonstrated his versatility and quality represents a significant problem for García’s tactics in the remaining part of the season. The club will need to find a solution for the wing position to mitigate the consequences of Brajković’s absence.
