Ivan Canjuga, a player from Varaždin, has found the position where he feels most at ease following his return to his home club. Although he moved to Lokomotiva four years ago, aged 16, his development there did not go as expected. In the youth teams and on the senior side at the local stadium, Canjuga was often deployed in wide attacking positions, which was not his natural terrain.
The winter transfer window brought a change, with Canjuga leaving Lokomotiva to return to Varaždin. After a short period of adjustment to the new environment, the player said he felt excellent. He highlighted that the central midfield role is his favourite and that he prefers to play in that position, a fact confirmed by his recent performances.
His return to his ideal position was confirmed on the pitch during matches against Czech side Jablonec. In those fixtures, he played in the central midfield role and stood out as one of the best players for Varaždin. Although the defeat in that match visibly shook him, as was evident from his expression immediately after the final whistle, his motivation remains high.
Canjuga has expressed hope that he will continue to perform well in the club's shirt where he began his football career. The return to Varaždin has allowed him to return to his roots and continue developing as a player who prefers controlling the game from the middle of the pitch, rather than on the flanks.
