Chelsea secured a vital away victory against Everton with a 2-0 win on Saturday.
The match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium took place in the shadow of a serious head injury to Emiliano Martinez, who was carried off the pitch on a stretcher following a collision with Jarrad Branthall.
The hero of the match was Pedro Neto, who scored both goals in the second half. The first came just 43 seconds after the restart, with the second arriving in the 90th minute. Jorren Hato provided the assist for Neto's first goal, marking his only change to the Chelsea lineup compared to the previous week's victory.
Everton's unbeaten run was broken, while Chelsea recorded their first clean sheet of the season. Mike Penders entered the match in the 74th minute, making his debut in the Premier League, replacing the injured Martinez. Christian Norgaard also made his debut for Everton, entering in the 85th minute for Armstrong, and was soon shown a yellow card for an unnecessary foul on Palmer.
Before half-time, Moises Caicedo was close to scoring with a first-time shot, but the ball hit the crossbar. In the 86th minute, Joao Pedro missed a clear chance to seal the victory. Harrison Armstrong saved a shot from the line, while Maxence Lacroix's header was also cleared off the line.
Josh Acheampong received a yellow card for a late challenge on Grealish in the first half, while Pedro Net received a card for dissent. In the closing stages, Geovani Quenda entered the match in the 90th+11th minute, replacing Net, while Marco Pastrana, Danny Welbeck, and Romeo Livia entered in the 90th+1 minute, replacing Hato, Joao Pedro, and Caicedo respectively.
