Great Britain took the top two spots in the 100m at the European Championships in Birmingham. Romell Glasse took the gold medal, with his compatriot Jeremiah Azu securing second. This result confirmed the dominance of British sprinting at the highest level.
Glasse finished in 10.09 seconds, becoming the sixth British man to win the title in this discipline. At 26, he is the third British winner in the last six editions, following Zharnel Hughes in 2018 and James Dasa in 2014. Prior to this, Glasse had won bronze at the European Championships in Rome two years ago.
The second place went to Azu, who finished the race in 10.16 seconds. Azu had already demonstrated his top form indoors, having won the 60m title in 2025. On the open track, he had previously taken bronze at the 2022 European Championships.
The bronze medal in the men's race was taken by the German athlete Owen Ansah. The race was also marked by the withdrawal of Italian athlete Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who was the defending European champion. Jacobs withdrew from the competition halfway through, breaking his streak of titles.
The women's 100m race took place 24 hours before the men's event. In that race, Amy Hunt took gold. The competition is part of the 2026 European Championships, which has drawn attention across Europe due to the high level of competition and surprises in the sprint disciplines.
