Michael Carrick, the interim manager of Manchester United, has clearly expressed his confidence in Bruno Fernandes' commitment to the club. Despite the challenges and critical situations, Carrick asserts that Fernandes remains in top form and that his contribution to the team is not in question.
Fernandes was left on the bench during the home defeat to Bournemouth in early October, which caused some tension. Following that match, the Portuguese midfielder criticised Carrick and his coaching staff over the 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como. However, just a week later, Fernandes was recalled to the starting lineup for the Premier League encounter against Chelsea.
On Tuesday, Fernandes scored from a retaken penalty in the victory over Roma, which Carrick highlighted as evidence of his commitment and professional approach. Although Fernandes dismissed the idea of talks to clear the air with Carrick, sources from the club confirmed that such discussions did take place. Carrick refused to go into the details of those conversations, emphasising that such discussions are part of everyday life at Carrington.
The manager also admitted that just one win in the last nine matches, the one against Ipswich in August, is insufficient. After the recent victory over Roma, Carrick highlighted the need to build continuity and positive momentum in the official match programme. The situation at the club will be further assessed after the next Premier League match against Aston Villa at Old Trafford. If United fail to win, the team will remain in the relegation zone during the international break, while Nottingham Forest simultaneously secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Manchester City.
