Youri Tielemans has officially become a new Manchester United player, completing a transfer worth £35 million. The English club activated a purchase clause in the Belgian midfielder’s contract with Aston Villa, securing his services for the long term. Tielemans signed a five-year contract with the club, which will bind him to Old Trafford until June 2031.
The new United player has already had the chance to show himself on the pitch, making his debut in the Red Devils’ shirt. Tielemans featured in a friendly against Paris Saint-Germain, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The match took place in Gothenburg, with the 29-year-old Belgian entering the pitch in the second half.
His entry onto the field occurred at a specific moment in the match. Tielemans replaced Mason Mount, who had been on the pitch for 20 minutes. Mount had to leave the game after suffering a blow to the leg, leading manager Michael Carrick to take him off. Carrick explained to the Norwegian broadcaster VG that Mount’s departure from the pitch was taken as a precaution.
Tielemans spent 26 minutes on the pitch, with it being notable that he entered the field immediately after Bruno Fernandes had been introduced in the second half. Although this was a friendly, the appearance marks the beginning of a new phase in the midfielder’s career, having made his professional debut in the Anderlecht shirt.
