Hungarian free diver Zsófia Torocsik has set a new world record for women in the Free Immersion (FIM) discipline. At the AIDA Lastovo Super Deep Week competition, held in the Croatian part of the Adriatic Sea, Torotsik managed to dive to a depth of 107 metres. This result makes her the current world champion in this specific diving discipline.
The previous women's world record stood at 106 metres, a record set in May by Ukrainian diver Nataliya Zharkova. Last month, American diver Enchante Gallardo also matched that record, but neither managed to break the barrier. Torotsik had previously set a record with a dive of 105 meters, signalling her ambitious goals for the remainder of the season.
The competition organisers, in collaboration with Visit Lastovo and Lastovo Holidays, highlight that the achieved success is particularly notable due to the specific conditions in the Adriatic Sea. Unlike other locations where similar competitions are held, the waters are significantly colder, making the performance more challenging and requiring greater physical preparation from the athletes. Due to these challenges, the organisers consider Torotsik's result to be all the more impressive.
Visit Lastovo and the Lastova Holidays organising team have sent congratulations to Torotsik on her achieved result. The AIDA Lastovo Super Deep Week competition is still ongoing, with participants having the opportunity to improve their results in the coming days. The organizers have announced that a detailed report on this year's edition of the competition will be published only after its final conclusion.
