Ražanac was the host of the European Cup in open water swimming on Saturday, transforming into a European swimming stage. The prestigious competition takes place in the town for the third year in a row, with this year's edition gathering 44 competitors from 12 European countries.
In the men's category, 28 swimmers competed, while 16 women took part. Among the competitors were eight Croatian swimmers, who had the opportunity to measure their strength against European competition in front of a home audience.
The competitors swam a distance of 10km, with the course organised so that they had to complete six laps around Ražanac. Each lap was slightly more than 1,666 metres. Despite the fear of the known Bura wind, it chose to pamper the swimmers, with the race taking place in calm conditions, without a trace of waves and with a clear sky.
The race had a live broadcast on the Arena Sport 1 channel. The best swimmers took just under two hours, which was expected given the demanding distance.
In the men's category, the Italian Dario Verani finished first with a time of 1:52:19. The best Croatian competitor was Mauro Boban, who with a time of 1:58:05 took 15th place.
In the women's category, the Polish Klaudia Tarasiewicz won, finishing the race in 2:02:26. The best Croatian swimmer was Klara Milak, who crossed the finish line with a time of 2:19:06, securing 11th place.
