The 18th edition of 'Stažnjec' was held at the sports ground in Vinski Potok, bringing together more than 250 competitors and visitors of all ages. This traditional sports-recreation event attracted participants from various age groups this year, confirming its role in strengthening community bonds.

A total of six teams competed, three of which represented the host village of Stažnjec: 'Centar', 'Otok ljubavi' (Island of Love), and 'Na malenom brijegu' (On the Little Hill). Guest teams arrived from Lepoglavska Ves, Bedenec, and Gačica. Participants competed throughout the day in a series of sports, traditional, and humorous disciplines, with 'Otok ljubavi' (Island of Love) proving to be the most successful team.

The event was officially opened by Varaždin County Prefect Anđelko Stričak, who highlighted how the event has linked different generations for years and brings together locals and guests from neighbouring settlements. Prizes for the winners were presented by Vladimir Canjuga, who emphasised the importance of such events in promoting sports recreation, healthy lifestyles, and connecting different age groups.

Denis Šimek, president of the Stažnjec Sports and Recreation Association, expressed satisfaction with the number of teams gathered and the sense of community in the small town. The association is recognised as the driving force behind the village's sporting and social life, and its work contributes to exceptional results at a higher level.

Stažnjec has won first place at the national rural sports recreation festival for four consecutive years, a unique result in the 30-year history of the competition. The event receives financial and logistical support from Varaždin County, the Town of Ivanec, and the Ivanec Town Tourist Board.
