Jastrebarsko Town is hosting the county firefighting competition for children and youth, which will take place next Sunday in Božjakovina. At this prestigious event, the Jastrebarsko Town Firefighting Association will be represented in the male youth category by teams from the Jastrebarsko Town Fire Department (DVD) Petrovina, DVD Volavje, and DVD Donji Desinec. In the female youth category, teams from DVD Gornji Desinec, DVD Volavje, and DVD Domagović will compete.
Preparations for the county competition culminated in the town competition held yesterday in the premises of the former barracks in Jastrebarsko. 22 competitive teams participated in this event, making it by far the largest of its kind for children and youth in the county. The Jastrebarsko Town Firefighting Association is considered one of the strongest in the county, and firefighting in the Jasko region has a long and rich tradition.
The aim of such competitions is to attract young people to firefighting and to serve as promotion for this profession in the town. The competition is divided into two age groups: the children's competition covers ages 6 to 12, while the youth competition covers ages 12 to 16. Successful competitors from Čeglje, Gornji Desinec, and Volavje, as well as female firefighters from Guče, Plešivica, and Domagović, now have the opportunity to represent their town at a higher level.
In addition to the younger categories, a demonstration competition for male and female "A" and "B" competitive teams in connecting suction hoses was also held in Jastrebarsko. A total of 14 teams participated in the demonstration part of the competition, showcasing the breadth of the firefighting community in the town. Jastrebarsko Mayor Zvonimir Novosel supports initiatives that strengthen the local community.
Ivica Sikra, secretary and president of the Jastrebarsko Town Firefighting Association, emphasised the importance of continuous work with young people. Organising such events is key to preserving the identity and readiness of fire brigades in the future. All prepared teams are now focusing on final preparations for the competition in Božjakovina.
