The first aid team from the local branch of the Croatian Red Cross in Donja Stubica represented the Zagorje region at the national competition held by the Croatian Red Cross, which took place on 12 September in Osijek. Among the best teams from across the country, the Donja Stubica team secured 5th place.
The team consisted of Luka Horjan, Petra Međeral Ozimec, Nika Kovačić, Anna Brand, Lorena Uroš and Mladen Klobučar. The initiative to participate was launched by the president of the local branch, Dr Sanja Kovačić, with the team’s mentors being Elizabet Horvat Horvati, Valentina Horvati Karadžić and Maja Uroš.
This year’s competition was thematically linked to large public gatherings and music festivals. The competitors faced five simulated work positions, with challenges involving crowds, high temperatures, noise, night-time conditions, injuries and sudden health issues.
The tasks required the teams to assess safety, identify life-threatening conditions, determine priorities, work as a team and communicate with the injured. These conditions were designed to faithfully reflect the situations rescue workers might encounter at real events with large numbers of people.
The local branch of the Croatian Red Cross expressed its gratitude to the team members for their effort and the result achieved. Gratitude was also expressed to the donors who enabled the team’s participation: the Maltese Service of Croatia, the Sanctuary of the Mother of God in Bistrica, and the Croatian Red Cross of the Krapina-Zagorje County.
