Warwickshire moved closer to a ninth title after taking a 247-run lead in the first innings on the second day of the match against Leicestershire at Edgbaston. The match is part of the Rothesay County Championship, Division One.
Sam Hine shone with his 100th century on the second day, scoring 142 runs from 301 balls. The crowd greeted him with standing ovations. Hine also reached 1,000 first-class runs in the season, only the second time in his career.
Warwickshire continued from 130-4, already five runs ahead, and added 51 runs without losing a wicket in the shortened morning session due to poor light. Captain Ed Barnard finished on 88 runs, 12 short of a century, after edging past a wide shot to Ben Green's delivery. Chris Woakes hit his second ball to mid-on, while Kai Smith and Manny Suth made useful cameos before falling to Hull. Bamber bowled to Patel. The final pair, Hannon-Dalby, added 35 runs, taking Warwickshire to 372.
Leicestershire were bowled out for 125 in the first innings, with A. Patel taking 3-78. In the second innings, Leicestershire closed the day on 55-3. Bears' fast bowler Ethan Bamber took two more wickets, bringing his season tally to 66. Bamber struck twice in three balls, catching Sheridan Gumbs and removing the off-stump of Rishi Patel. In the twilight, Leicestershire's opener Sol Budinger scored 43 runs without being out from 36 balls.
Leicestershire are trailing Warwickshire by 192 runs. Warwickshire have six points, while Leicestershire have three. A draw would be enough for Warwickshire to secure the title.
