Anthropic, the artificial intelligence giant, recorded a 45 per cent rise in revenue to $16.8 billion ($12.7 billion) in the three months to the end of September. The data was reportedly released by the developer of Claude during a briefing for potential investors on Wednesday in its San Francisco headquarters.

Anthropic’s revenue has grown in consecutive quarters this year, with $4.7 billion in the first three months rising to $11.6 billion in the subsequent period. The company is laying the groundwork for an expected major stock sale by the end of the year. A spokesperson for Anthropic declined to comment on the matter.

Anthropic’s revenue, alongside that of rival OpenAI, provides a key indicator of the growth in the AI industry and the capacity to fund the infrastructure required for the development of the technology. Some technology shares, including companies that produce chips and other hardware for data centres, have come under pressure due to concerns over the large sums being spent on AI infrastructure.

The developer of ChatGPT is also considering a major listing, with the company expected to be valued at more than $1 trillion. Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI, stated in September that his company would not list on the stock exchange this year as it addresses safety concerns regarding the technology.

Despite pressure on some technology shares, the data on Anthropic’s revenue indicates strong demand for AI solutions. The San Francisco-based company continues to attract investor attention, and the expected share sale could further shape the artificial intelligence market.
