In a public statement that has drawn widespread attention, she noted that her students currently possess mathematical knowledge equivalent to that of fifth to eighth graders. This data, presented with gravity, indicates deep concern within the academic community regarding the quality of preparation of incoming students.

The primary cause of this situation, according to her, lies in changes to the admissions process. Students, who are not sufficiently prepared for rigorous mathematical programmes, are often admitted to the university because the standard test, known as the SAT, is no longer in use. This test, which traditionally served as a key indicator of readiness, no longer functions as a filter, a development the author attributes to the weakening of foundational knowledge among enrolled students.

Paradoxically, while criticising the decline in standards, the professor herself uses modern technology in her work.
