Sharif Ahmadzai, a 26-year-old boxer, appeared in court in Athens in connection with the death of Elizabeth Ross, a British national from Edinburgh.
Ahmadzai arrived at the First Instance Court in Athens around 09:40 local time, arriving in a grey Hyundai i30 with tinted windows. The hearing was held in private, and the case has been adjourned until Thursday.
The body of Elizabeth Ross, also known as Lisa, was found in a suitcase in an abandoned building on 18 July. Ross had been reported missing a few days prior to the discovery of her body. She had arrived in Greece on 26 June, living in the area of Keratsini in Piraeus by 10 July. During her stay, she volunteered for a charity based in Athens.
Ahmadzai was arrested on suspicion of murder, robbery, and weapons offences. The initial report by the forensic expert did not determine the cause of death, but subsequent examinations concluded that the death was the result of a criminal act, likely strangulation. Following the hearing, Ahmadzai was led out of the court by police officers with covered faces, after more than an hour.
