A member of the Royal Navy has been charged, police said. The 24-year-old in question is Teddy Young from Bedfordshire, who was arrested by counter-terrorism police.

Young is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later today following charges of obtaining protected information that could be used by a foreign power. He was arrested at his home in Bedfordshire on 6 October following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command (CTC).

The Metropolitan Police said on Thursday that Young is now charged with a number of offences under the National Security Act. The Crown Prosecution Service approved the charges on Wednesday.

The charges allege that between 26 November 2024 and 21 May 2025, he engaged in conduct preparatory to the offence of disclosing protected information. It is also alleged that in the same period, he obtained, copied, recorded, or retained protected information with the intention that the conduct would be of use to a foreign power.

The head of the CTC, Helen Flanagan, said: "These are very serious allegations against an active member of the armed forces. We have been working closely with operational colleagues in the Ministry of Defence to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to mitigate the risks associated with this case."

Police stated that the arrest and charges are not linked to the recent investigation into an incident at RAF Fairford.
